KSA gives Winning Poker Network a cease-and-desist order.
After determining that Winning Poker Network had violated national legislation by providing online gambling without a licence, the Dutch gambling authority de Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) issued a cease-and-desist order to the company.
Winning Poker Network was first looked into by Betsson acquisition KSA in September of last year, and it was discovered that the operator had been providing games of chance unlawfully.
Winning Poker Network indicated it would stop these actions after the regulator contacted it.
After a follow-up investigation by KSA, Dutch players were able to register for an account on another website operated by the operator, even though the original Winning Poker Network website was no longer reachable from the Netherlands.
Accordingly, KSA claimed that customers in the Netherlands might utilise these accounts to engage in unlawful gambling with Winning Poker Network.
The regulator issued the cease-and-desist order, subject to recurring penalty payments, since it determined that the offering of unlawful games of chance had not been fully terminated.
Winning Poker Network will have to pay €25,000 (£21,954/$26,914) every week for each week it offers unlawful games of chance, up to a maximum of €75,000, if the breach persists.
KSA further stated that it will keep an eye on the operator in order to evaluate any additional violations.
